Mike
Milligan has been teaching electric bass (bass guitar) and double
bass (acoustic bass-upright bass) for over twenty years. He
has taught privately and has conducted clinics and master classes
at various secondary and post-secondary schools through-out
Canada. Mike
runs his private teaching practice from a studio in his home
in Toronto.
Mike
is a teacher who likes to emphasize a relaxed and fun approach
to music education, an approach that helps the student enjoy
the process of learning to play the bass. A solid grounding
in the physical/technical aspects of playing is conveyed through
various exercises that help the student acquire proper technique.
Developing a strong time (or rhythmic) feel is a critical aspect
of music performance and Mike has various methods to help students
achieve this. Any aspect of music a student may wish to inquire
about is welcomed and fully explored. Mike's teaching methods
have been very successful; many students have started performing
in public and all are happy with their progress thus far. Please
be sure to read the testimonials page.
Mike
has performed in concert and recorded with many of the leading
figures in contemporary jazz. He has studied double bass with
Dave Holland and George Mraz (two world class bass players).
